The second and last (unfinished) album of Jeff Buckley, who disappeared on May
29th last year in the waters of the Memphis marina, will be released a little
less than a year after his death. However precious and giddy this event will
be for his admirers, it might darken the 'evidence' that's manifested from the
very first listening of the 'tapes' : before being an intimate trace, the
chronique of a lost love, Sketches for My sweetheart the drunk is above
all a big record.
Nothing less than the dazzling reflex of a radiant and sparkling talent, full
of lust for life and happy to work on his new songs. Here resides big shocks
like The Sky is a landfill and Yard of blonde girls : the man you
hear singing (magnificently) is not sad, not fragile. It's a Buckley on fire
but at the same time hard-working, concentrated on his thing.
The preconceived idea about this double album is that of a simplicity and a
dignity without weakness : these twenty songs, more or less brought to their
final versions, more or less clothed - but it doesn't matter, since the
nudity suits them fine - shows the slow and fascinating work of a musician
preparing his big return into the light. Jeff Buckley, this happy man (not cursed, nor depressed), had in mind to live for a long time : in his absence his records will do it for him instead. Release date May 5th.
(note: as for the US, the release date is set to May 26th, other
countries, well, I don't know...)
this translation was completed in a very short time, and I don't have the time
really to look into all the faults, so I'd be happy if you could mail me if you
find something "weird". Thanks! |
