Ralph McQuarrie was born on June 13, 1929 in Gary, Indiana. His earliest
influence came from his grandfather, who did watercolors, and his mother, who
did scetched and painted. He studied technical drawing in high school and
landed his first major job with Kaier Graphics in the fifties. He soon moved
over to the Boeing Company where he sharpened his craft in mechanical drawing.
In 1965 he came to California with his life savings, set up shop in Venice
Beach and began free-lancing in the film world. His intent has always been to
study the fine arts while dreaming up and experimenting with new visual art
forms.
This portfolio contains twenty new Ralph McQuarrie production paintings from
RETURN OF THE JEDI. Once more McQuarrie enables us to take a wonderous step
out among the stars to galaxies far, far away.
Ralph McQuarrie
Millions of Americans became familiar with Ralph McQuarrie's art work during
the televised CBS news coverage of the amazing Apollo lunar missions. His
graphic illustrations revealed to us the first stages of man's exploration
of the universe. He then went on to secure his importance as an artist of the
space age when he visualized George Lucas's concepts, thus aiding in the
creation of the most spectacular space epics of out time, STAR WARS and THE
EMPIRE STRIKES BACK.
