Gustav Weißkopf - the German/American aviator who achieved the very first motorized flight  (1901)

Wilbur & Orville Wright - inventors, builders and pilots of the world's first practical aeroplane  (1903)

Manfred von Richthofen - with nearly 80 air victories during World War I, the Red Baron is regarded, to this day, as the ace of aces  (1916–1918)

Charles Lindbergh - the Swedish descendant American pilot who made the very first transatlantic flight  (1927)

Amelia Earhart - pioneer aviatrix; the first woman to cross the Atlantic (1932); she perished, along with her navigator, in an attempt to become the first woman to fly around the world  (1937)

The Spruce Goose Howard Hughes - renowned industrialist, moviemaker, and daring aviator; this excentric Texan managed to set several speed and distance records as well as become a major aircraft manufacturer - he engineered the construction of the the largest plane ever built, nicknamed the "Spruce Goose"  (1947)

Charles "Chuck" Yeager - "Mr Supersonic", legendary test pilot and fighter ace; the first man to cross the sound barrier  (1947)
