About

Spel1 is a working name for a Roleplaying-/Adventure-game that is developed by Erik Järlemyr and Peter Svensson. Much of the inspiration for Spel1 comes from the Final Fantasy series, and some of our goals have been to:

Right now the game is in the design phase, and it will probably remain there for quite some time. This project is managed on our spare time, and even though we care very much for it, we simply haven't got the time to work on it as much as it would need.

Engine Features

Graphics will be displayed using 3D-models for characters that move on a prerendered background, just as in Final Fantasy VII - X. We will use DirectX for the display, but we will try to keep requirements to a minimal. We will also try to make sure that the game is playable in Linux through WineX.

Battles will take place in a completely three-dimensional area, just as in Final Fantasy, allthough the battle itself will be quite different from these games. We opt for, in this order:

  1. Action. Think "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon".
  2. Tactics. The players choice matters for the outcome of the battle.
  3. Realism. This should be achieved through abstraction, as opposed to detailism.

The engine will feature a compiled scripting language, that is designed to be highly flexible and reusable.

A large number of "minigames" are planned, this will force the engine to be very flexible and be able to display very different kind of graphics.

Music will be implemented through DirectMusic, using features such as patterns to make songs less repetitive.
